I'm baaack!

Been contemplating what to blog about since my return from Jamaica.  I've joined so many fashion blog communities that I am having difficulty keeping up with my own and feeling a tad bit overwhelmed.

My fashion summer challenge will be to work with what I have in my closet recreating quite the master pieces of outfits to wear to work in the fall.  One main issue is the extra pounds I put on around my waist while on my 5-day "mommy" vacay in Negril.

I will do my best to post some pics as close to fashionable as possible.  As I type, I am thinking about this Rasta-guy who was walking along the white sands selling his homemade wine in a lovely arrangement basket.

I was mesmerized by the sunset one evening.

This completes my posting of my Jamaica vacation.  I have a couple of outfit postings that I will be adding to this tomorrow.

Jamaica (possible) outfit posting

Paisley print black dress (TJ Maxx)
w/ tan, leather Bebe belt bought from Torih's home Boutique sale.

I spent the afternoon going through my closet and and unpacking my summer clothes storage bin.  I packed another bin filled with garage sale items as I went along.  This posting was inspired by my BFF who called to say that I hadn't posted anything today on my fashion blog, so I decided to post a picture of what I believe will be my favorite summer dress for 2011.
I apologize for the picture quality taken with my Palm Pixi cell phone.

Beauty Product Review

This is a review on Avon's magiX face perfector with SPF 20 for $5.99 + tax.

PROD_1053998_XL.jpg

It comes in 30ml/1 fl oz tube and is used to help prevent sunburn.

Directions: perfect the look of your skin with this colorless gel powder.  Apply all over face or just on areas that need perfecting.  Use alone or under foundation.  Apply evenly before sun exposure as needed.

I ran into a gentleman who was passing out his Avon business info at a fundraiser basketball game in my neighborhood, so I decided to place an order because I had been dying to try the new and improved Avon products.

I  have been using this as a primer or make-up base.  I absolutely love the light-weight feeling.  Trust me when I say that a little bit goes a long way.  It has a light scent that is pretty tolerable for my allergies.  It goes on smooth and evens out the look of both my concealer and liquid foundation.  The blemishes, oil, and craters on my face seem to be minimized when I use it. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this product to others and I'd give 5 out of 5 stars.

GOD'S FAVORITE SHOES™: Here Comes the Summer!

GOD'S FAVORITE SHOES™: Here Comes the Summer!

Fashion Tribute to the one and only, my MOTHER!

Silk or polyester blouse and what they called "hot-pants" in the 70s.

Check out the chain belt with the fitted sweater dress...1970s!
My mother turned 70 this year.  She has been a well-known diva AND a fashionista for over 60 years.  When I was a teenager, I did not appreciate the fact that my mom was a pretty stylish person because everyone else's mom dressed more casual and relaxed.  Those mom's wore jeans and casual shirts.  My mom didn't even own a pair of jeans...LOL!  Most of the clothes she purchased for the family came from boutiques and trunk shows AND there wasn't a person around who could duplicate her findings.

Take a look and enjoy these throw-backs of my mother from the 70s.  I don't have the descriptions of what she's wearing as the pictures speak for themselves.  Plus she'd probably kill me for posting this pictures.  Love ya mom!

my "FIRST" outfit posting

I finally got the confidence to post a picture of myself on my blog.  I was toying with the decision as to how I'd actually post pictures of my outfits of the day (OFTD) with out showing my face (I'm a little camera shy).  With the help of my 9 year old son (whose one of my biggest critics), I can confidently say, it's done.

So folks, here you have it!

What I'm wearing:
Maxi Dress: Rue 21 Outlet; Cardigan Sweater: Target; Shoes: Merona (thrifted);
Bracelets: green-(thrifted), purple-Rue 21 Outlet, black-so old I don't remember
Whew!  I DID IT!  It's done and over.  I hope to post many, many more.

Ended another school year....peacefully

I am really feeling it this year.  Yep, that's right, this is the first time in my career where I've ended the school year at such peace.  Because of this, I decided to treat myself with a very, special gift to serve as a companion over the next several years.  I usually end the school year going out celebrating with colleagues at a local restaurant/bar, but NOT this year.  Instead spent my money on something that I hope will aide in my journey to use my creativity to make some extra cash.

With this in mind,  I declare that this will be my summer of prosperity.  I have quite a few important tasks to embark upon. They are listed below, but not limited to:

  • my very first series of yard sales where I will sell my clothes, children's clothes and several toys;
  • eating healthy and exercise daily;
  • cleaning, painting, and de-cluttering my front porch;
  • cleaning my mudroom;
  • finishing up my doctorate degree assignments;
  • learning the art of blogging;
  • learning a little something about photography with my new FujiFilm FinePix s2940 w/ 18x zoom camera;
  • collaborating with someone to host a fashion event of some sort;
  • purchase a dress form;
  • learn to sew and take a few sewing classes;
  • sporting events with my kids, theirs and local teams; AND lastly, stay up late....sleep in later! :)

WHEW!  I wonder if I will ever get all of this done in 9 weeks!?!?!?!  I noticed I didn't list "getting rest and relaxation".  I guess I could not have from the exhaustion of tasks listed above.  Wish me luck!

Wire Dress Forms...I heart THESE!

I actually purchased the one on the left!  I plan to go back and get the one on the right.  They both are on clearance and can be used as  jewelry storage or for household decorations.  I am currently using mine as a decoration in my foyer right before entering my stairwell.
Wire dress forms from Pier 1

I have finally found something that I am passionate about collecting and that I am willing to spend time finding.  I hope to add this intricately, detailed wire dress form from Pier 1 to my newly discovered items of collectibles.
